Update... Surgery #2 Tomorrow

Surgery tomorrow to remove hardware at Denver Children's.
Please keep Adeline in your prayers!
It's been awhile since we've posted - Adeline has been doing really well!
It's really quite remarkable what doctors can do and how the body can heal. We know it wasn't easy, but Adeline says she is glad she did the surgery as her pain has decreased tremendously. She had her first surgery January 2019 and worked really hard to recover. Adeline was in a wheelchair, crutches, intensive physical therapy for five months. Returned to normal activity at the end of June 2019.
Adeline ran her first cross country season for the junior high team the next fall - loved it! Her end of the season mile time was 6.41.  Did I mention how hard she works at everything she sets her mind to?
School basketball and traveling basketball season went well, too. However, the hardware in her hips really started to ache. The screws are not small by any means, so diving for loose balls would leave bruises on her hips and she said it felt like the ends of the screws were going to puncture through her skin. Adeline could feel them when she slept, when she wore jeans, etc. Adeline made the choice this winter that she wanted to schedule the surgery to have the hardware in her left hip removed.
Adeline chose the date so that she could run the start of track season and not miss the start of high school basketball in the summer, but then COVID hit - so it got cancelled. The only options once things opened up were mid-June or the first week of school in August.
Adeline and Chuck just got done with pre-op at Denver Children's Hospital this morning. I'm here with the rest of the kiddos as only one parent is allowed in the hospital. They both liked the surgeon a lot. If all goes as planned, actual surgery is two hours (they plan for 4 hours start to finish) and she will get to come home late tomorrow night. Crutches for awhile and no impact sports for another six weeks. Adeline's only question was, "can I still practice ball handling and free throws?" She has to let the bone grow in where they are drilling out the pins holding her hip together. Surgeon recommends physical therapy.
As for the right hip, it is dysplastic, too. Adeline says it feels good, though - so no surgery until she says otherwise. She had pain for so many years before she had her surgery. We're praying she will just get to be an active healthy teen!
